'50 Wigs: Words' by Kate Pelling (2023, 06:33 Mins.) is part of a series of works examining the successes and failures of collections and community. The 50 wigs were collected by the artist over many years and most of them have appeared in previous video works. The wigs provide layered narratives within the work as well as acting as an absurd kind of ‘community’. '50 Wigs: Words' uses a set of words collected from a small number of people in Germany, the UK and Switzerland. The words are presented without description or attribution, their only meaningful connection is to their wig and they are brought together by the editing process, with a nod to the Kuleshov effect. The success of this 'community' is the common goal of being presented as words and wigs together, despite the failure to achieve any meaning beyond this context.
